Services Design Partnership has signed a sponsorship deal that will keep Sheffield University Rowing Club (SURC) dry.
The Wakefield based consulting engineering firm has given the 60 strong team funding for a marquee and other equipment for when they travel to matches around the UK.
One of the UK’s most successful and fastest growing rowing clubs SURC, which won University Club of the year 2014-15 and was named Yorkshire Rowing Club of 2016 is looking to capitalise on its success and has already invested in new boats for this season. But the teams were facing an exposed season when funding ran out and they still hadn’t sourced a new shelter. SDP came to the rescue impressed at their tenacity and determination.
Chris Armistead, a founding director of the company which specialises in Mechanical & Electrical fitouts for leading pharmaceutical and healthcare companies was more than pleased to step in and give the club the money it needed.
“The SURC team impressed us with their determination to achieve in their own time. Already they have achieved incredible results on limited resources,” he said. “When they explained their dilemma, we were pleased to help out and sponsor their team marquee and help them buy other support equipment,” he added. “It fits with the SDP ethos of supporting sustainable projects.”
