Every business is conscious of the environmental impact of their operation. The debate has moved from simply reducing the carbon footprint of each product that is made but how can the manufacturing process be more sustainable for the business, their customers and their communities.
Service Design Partnership was called on by a leading aluminium can manufacturer who produces cans for soft drinks. Facing constant demands to hold or even reduce the cost of their products they were also keen to install a new ventilation system that was cost effective.
Not just content to reduce their carbon footprint by cutting energy consumption and emissions they were keen to install a system that would improve their productivity in the short term and safeguard maintenance and replacement costs in the future.
The company, which is based in West Yorkshire turned to Service Design Partnership due to its reputation for creating innovative M&E systems and ability to ensure installation within tight timelines and within budget.
The tow key drivers for the company to protect existing production and increase its capacity to cope with rising demand; they wanted to do this with a natural ventilation system at their existing plant.
SDP was commissioned to design an extension to the existing plant. The extension was designed using Building Image Modelling (BIM).
Using the 3D imagery SDP was able to design an extension for the roof of the canning plant which is being built with an integral waste recycling machine to mitigate the company’s carbon footprint by reducing their waste.
This gave the canning company increased capacity, improved efficiency, helped reduce their carbon footprint, cut costs and waste and is more cost effective in the long run.
