HRI General Works
Huddersfield Royal Infirmary (HRI) has been undergoing modernisation and upgrades for the last 16 years, during which Service Design Partnership have been trusted advisors to both the NHS Trust and main contractor, Interserve.
Closely involved in the Mechanical & Electrical (M&E) work for a number of wards, SDP was the first choice designer when the focus switched to Ward 19.
Not modernised since the mid 1970s, Ward 19 was particularly challenging because it was located centrally and surrounding wards had to remain fully operational while the work was carried out.
SDP’s first task was to conduct a comprehensive feasibility study of what needed shutting down and re-routing prior to work starting on Ward 19. The company then set up the systems so that surrounding wards were still functioning, but it was safe for contractors to work on Ward 19. SDP also designed the M&E system for the new ward and worked closely with contractors, Interserve, to ensure it was fitted and complied with the most recent legislation.
Paul Gilling works for HRI NHS Trust. "SDP have worked with us on numerous projects for a number of years," he said. "When we called them in as part of the Ward 19 refurbishment they instantly recognised the key challenges and how to overcome them."
"SDP’s designs for the M&E work were excellent and any amendments have been made seamlessly."
"The beauty of working with SDP is that they know what they are doing. Their feasibility studies are comprehensive, their expertise in technical matters is sound and their work ethic is second to none. SDP are great collaborators and a welcome addition to the team."
He added: "SDP have been involved with a series of complex projects on critical wards at HRI, including surgical operating theatres as well as public areas and I am sure we will commission them for future projects."
